Suffolk Open Studios
This year I am again taking part in Suffolk Open Studios - this is where artists working in all different media open their studios to the public over the weekends in June at no charge. It is a great opportunity to see the huge variety of creative expression in this area .
10 Artists around Sudbury will be opening on the first weekend in June - I will post more details nearer the time.
For me this has been a year of alpaca-inspired applied art.
The fleece from our three alpacas is durable, silky and soft. Using traditional methods, I have been spinning, weaving and felting this versatile material to produce natural, eco-friendly artworks. I use as little processing as possible so my works remain close to their source materials – my aim is to reinstate craft and localness into the production process. Rather than using chemical dyes, I am enjoying the challenge of designing with a natural palette of only brown, white and black.
Come and meet the alpacas, and learn about the importance of traditional craft. See how art can seek alternatives to unsustainable patterns of production and consumption.
